My work reflects my obsession with landscape and how it reflects the human condition. My work is guided by imagination and the drawing and painting process.
My body of work reflects the emotional impact of unexpected events, loss and the consequences of personal choices. The representational nature of my work, facial expressions and the juxtaposition of birds, children and animals in ominous landscapes, produce private, unsettling, claustrophobic worlds, which hint at the sinister.
Images of birds are used to represent freedom, creativity and imagination, exploring an individuals willingness to acquiesce their own needs and desires in order to conform and sustain relationships and the liberation gained from personal battles.
Birds are placed within disquieting imaginary landscapes, which engulf and overwhelm them, offering protection which suppresses and censors.
